Steel pedestrian bridges and skywalks, lifted into place in a night
A skywalk is fabricated in the yard, trial-assembled, then lifted in one or two pieces during a road closure. Three checks shape it: how it feels underfoot, how it moves between two buildings, and how it is lifted.

Vibration
Why some footbridges feel lively
People walk at about 2 Hz. A bridge with a natural frequency near that, or near half of it sideways, can resonate.

Remedies: stiffer section, added mass, or tuned mass dampers. Sideways lock-in with crowds is what closed London’s Millennium Bridge in 2000.

Details that decide a skywalk
Two buildings move differently. Wind sway, thermal expansion and settlement of each building. One end is usually fixed, the other on sliding bearings with a movement joint.
Camber. Pre-camber is built in so the deck is level under dead load, and checked at trial assembly.
Lifting. Crane position and piece weight set splice locations and temporary supports. The lifting plan is part of the scheme.
Coating. Outdoor exposure, often ISO 12944 C4, with a durable top coat for appearance.

Do you design the bridge?
We provide the scheme, vibration check and calculations; a local engineer usually checks and stamps them. We also fabricate to your engineer’s design.
Can the bridge be lifted in one piece?
Often yes, if site cranes and transport allow. Otherwise in segments onto temporary supports.
Do you do road bridges?
No. Pedestrian bridges, skywalks and walkways only.
Who supplies the glazing on an enclosed skywalk?
Usually the facade contractor. We fabricate the brackets and embeds into the steel.
