Interior of a steel fabrication workshop

EN 10204 defines the types of inspection document that come with metallic products. For structural steel, 3.1 is the usual requirement.

Document types

TypeContentValidated by
2.1Declaration of compliance, no test resultsManufacturer
2.2Non-specific test resultsManufacturer
3.1Specific test results for the delivered batchManufacturer’s independent inspector
3.23.1 plus purchaser’s or third-party inspectorBoth parties

Traceability

The heat number on the certificate should be transferred to each cut piece and recorded against member marks, so any member can be traced back to its certificate.

Ask for the trace log, not just the certificates. Certificates without a link to members prove little.
