A 40HQ can legally carry around 26 t, but structural steel rarely reaches that. Long, bulky members fill the space first.

Container limits

ContainerInside L × W × HTypical steel load
20GP5.9 × 2.35 × 2.39 mBolts, plates, small parts
40HQ12.03 × 2.35 × 2.69 m18–24 t of members
40FR12.0 m, open sidesWide or heavy pieces

Rules of thumb

  • Keep members under 11.8 m to fit a 40HQ with handling room
  • Nest purlins and small members inside large sections
  • Heavy compact items (base plates, bolts) fill weight with little volume

Splice to fit. A bolted splice at 11.8 m is often cheaper than one flat rack.
