Steel detailing and connection design, with responsibility written down
Most disputes on steel projects start with one question: who was responsible for that detail? This page sets out what we design, what we only draw, and what happens when a drawing is wrong.

Three levels, three different responsibilities
| Tingkat | What we do | Design responsibility | Typical client |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheme design | Structural system, member sizes, tonnage estimate | GGSteel for the scheme; a local engineer usually checks and stamps | Owners with a brief |
| Connection design (delegated) | Design of connections from member forces on your drawings | Your engineer for members; our engineer for connections | Contractors with IFC drawings |
| Shop drawings only | Model and drawings from fully detailed design | Your engineer of record | Contractors with complete details |
What we need before detailing starts
- IFC or tender drawings in DWG, IFC or Revit, not only PDF
- Member forces for connections we design (shear, moment, axial, by load case)
- Design code and the connection design option your engineer prefers
- Steel grades, bolt grades, weld grade or execution class
- Architectural and MEP models for clash checking, where available
- Erection constraints: crane capacity, splice preferences, delivery zones
Who designs the connections, by code
| Code | Options | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| AISC 303 (USA) | Option 1: shown in full by the EOR. Option 2: fabricator completes simple connections from tables. Option 3: delegated to the fabricator’s licensed engineer | Options 2 and 3, with calculations for your EOR’s review |
| EN 1993-1-8 (Europe) | Joints designed by the designer or delegated with execution specification | Joint calculations per EN 1993-1-8 |
| GB 50017 (China) | Usually the design institute shows main joints; fabricator completes details | Joint calculations and node drawings |
| AS 4100 (Australia) | Design or delegated design per specification | Calculations to AS 4100 |
Option numbering per AISC 303. Your contract decides which option applies.

Missing data and conflicts listed within 2 working days.
Model
Frame, connections and openings modelled.
Submission
Drawings issued in batches by zone.
Review
Your engineer returns each sheet coded A, B, C or D.
Revision
B and C comments closed out and re-issued.
Release
Only A and B sheets go to the workshop.
| Code | Meaning | Can fabrication start? |
|---|---|---|
| A | Disetujui | Yes |
| B | Approved as noted | Yes, with comments applied |
| C | Revise and resubmit | No |
| D | Rejected | No |
Typical review turnaround we plan for: 5–10 working days per batch; typical rounds: 2. Your specification may set its own codes.
Who pays for detailing errors
| Cause | Who is responsible | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Our detail does not match the approved design | GGSteel | We fix or remake the member at our cost |
| Dimension or hole error in our shop drawing | GGSteel | Same, even if your engineer approved the sheet |
| Design drawing was wrong or changed | Your engineer | Change logged with cost and time before we proceed |
| Site conditions differ from drawings | By contract | Site fix proposed and priced |
What you receive, and in which format

Clashes we look for before you see the drawings
Can you work from Revit or Rhino models?
Yes. We import via IFC into Tekla and report anything that does not translate.
How long does detailing take?
About 2–4 weeks for 1,000–3,000 t, issued by zone so fabrication can start earlier.
Do you design to Eurocode or AISC?
Yes, for connections and scheme design. Your local engineer of record keeps responsibility for the structure.
Will you sign an NDA before we send drawings?
Yes.
How many detailers and engineers do you have?
Numbers to confirm.
