01Why South China

Complete, well-documented steel kits for long supply chains

Nigeria and Kenya are both building industrial capacity: free zones around Lagos and Ogun, and special economic zones and industrial parks around Nairobi, Naivasha and Mombasa. Many projects are delivered by EPC contractors who need the whole building in one supply contract.

Local steel fabrication is limited for heavy sections, and long port and inland transit times make missing parts expensive. We ship complete building kits: primary frame, purlins, bracing, bolts, stairs and cladding interfaces, all cross-checked against the Tekla model before the containers are sealed.

Tropical humidity, coastal chlorides at Lagos and Mombasa and long storage on site all attack coatings. We specify systems for C4 or C5 exposure and pack for a long voyage and open-yard storage.

  • Bolt and part counts checked against the model, plus 3–5% spare fasteners
  • Coating systems for humid tropical and coastal exposure
  • Erection drawings and marks designed for crews new to the building
  • Documents prepared for SONCAP (Nigeria) and KEBS PVoC (Kenya)

02Codes & compliance

Designing and fabricating to Nigeria & Kenya requirements

Nigeria and Kenya both draw on British Standards and Eurocodes for steel design, and many EPC projects use AISC 360. Import conformity is controlled by SON in Nigeria and KEBS in Kenya.

Typical references. The project specification and authority approvals govern.

Pre-shipment conformity: both markets require certification before or at shipment. Nigeria uses SONCAP; Kenya uses the KEBS Pre-Export Verification of Conformity programme, with inspection in China. We schedule this inspection into the program so it does not delay the vessel.
03Shipping routes

From Shenzhen and Guangzhou to Lagos and Mombasa

East Africa is reached directly across the Indian Ocean. West Africa sailings round the Cape and often transship at Singapore, Colombo or Lomé.

Transit times are typical port-to-port sailing times and vary with carrier, transshipment and season. Confirmed per booking in our quotation.

Complete kits in 40HQ

Each building packed as a kit, with packing list by container and erection mark.

Break-bulk via Lekki and Mombasa

Long trusses and heavy columns on multipurpose vessels where port handling allows.

Long-voyage protection

Edge protectors, rubber pads and moisture control for 30-day voyages and site storage.

Packing rules, 40HQ loading plans and break-bulk limits are covered in our 40HQ container steel loading guide and on the quality, NDT and shipping page.

04Building types

What we commonly supply for Nigeria & Kenya projects

Most enquiries are factories and warehouses in industrial parks, plus EPC packages for processing plants, storage and public buildings.

Members and systems most often ordered

Typical steel consumption

Warehouses typically use 32–45 kg/m². Factories with cranes run 55–95 kg/m². Indicative FOB price is USD 1,100–1,800/t; CIF Lagos or Mombasa adds freight and insurance confirmed per booking.

05Delivery model

Clear scope: what we deliver and where our responsibility ends

We supply steel to Nigerian and Kenyan owners and EPC contractors. We have no office in Nigeria or Kenya and do not perform civil works there.

FOB Shenzhen / Guangzhou

Steel delivered on board, export-cleared, with packing lists, loading plans and MTCs. You or your forwarder control freight and insurance.

CFR / CIF Lagos / Mombasa

Freight and insurance to Lagos, Lekki or Mombasa, often preferred because African buyers want freight risk handled at origin. Clearance and inland haulage stay with your agent.

Supervision & installation

Erection supervisors on site for the first building or the full erection period, training your local crew. No civil works.

  • Complete kit checked against the model before loading
  • SONCAP or KEBS PVoC inspection scheduled before the vessel
  • Erection manual and sequence drawings for each building
  • Dossier with MTCs, UT, DFT and dimensional reports

Industrial, storage and healthcare projects delivered in China

These projects were built in China. We show them as evidence of comparable building types, not as Nigerian or Kenyan references.

Send drawings or a building brief and we return a BOM and CIF Lagos or Mombasa price.

Other markets we ship to

How long does shipping to Lagos take?

Typically 28–35 days from Shenzhen to Lagos Apapa, Tin Can or Lekki, often with one transshipment. Mombasa is 16–20 days. Add 25–40 days of fabrication.

We prepare the invoices, packing lists, MTCs and test reports, and schedule the pre-shipment inspection in China. The certificate application is made with your importer or PVoC agent.

For humid coastal sites we use Sa2.5 blasting, zinc-rich epoxy primer, epoxy MIO and polyurethane topcoat at 240–320 µm DFT, or hot-dip galvanizing for secondary steel.

Yes. We ship the primary frame, secondary steel, bolts, stairs and cladding interfaces as a checked kit, with spare fasteners and touch-up paint.

We send erection supervisors to train and direct local crews. Erection labour, equipment and civil works are by your local contractor.
